Great product photos images: The key to your brand’s success
April 10, 2009
How often have you visited an emerging t shirt companies site and the home page looks good and you click on the store and see a postage size stamp image of a product, click on it once and it becomes the size of a cracker and click again and you can see it?
Don’t make me work that hard! Or anyone else for that matter. Don’t forget your clothing is your product, people need to see it to buy it. Great images of your product will make or break your site. People can forgive iffy web design but when you are selling a visual product they can’t forgive a product that they may be interested in being blurred or too small to enable them to see enough detail to buy.
Christian T Shirt Brand Perfect Love do a great job of this. Their product images are clear and it’s obvious what you need to do to check all their range.
Chances are if you have a good t shirt printer and some cool designs your shirts look great anyway, why make it hard for your customers, hit them with striking quality photos of your products and sales conversion is bound to improve.
Now there’s a few ways to represent your product.
- You can have a graphic of your stuff. Not the best but if you’re just getting started and they’re good quality and showcase the designs and the size is big enough to get the detail then you’re fine.
- Photos of the clothing. Ditto. Nicer because it’s real and you can get a better feel for what the clothing looks like in real life
- Get some photos of people in your product demographic wearing your stuff. By far the best. People can relate to people like them wearing the clothes. With some good models it brings your brand to life. It doesn’t have to cost a ton either. There are local colleges with photography classes who would love to do a photoshoot. Chances are they can provide some models too.
Really think of ways you can bring the flavor of your brand into play on your site.
Finally look at what Thirdchoice Tshirts did. They gave some shirts to a photographer who was working with a professional model and look at the results, their stuff looks sexy and the photographs are top class. A great addition to any web site. They didn’t pay for the shoot they just gave them clothes.
So check your site out, look as if you are a customer. Are your images good enough? Do they look as good as your product does in real life? If no it’s time to get some new shots and display them on a site that really showcases your brand. You site will look better and your sales will improve as peopl feel more affinity with your clothing

Well thought out and pertinent advice. Professional product photography will always enhance your customers perception of the your product. look for a photographer that can work with you on the look of the final images that will match the style and feel of your website and keep your costs under control.
